The following reminders are offered to help meditators recognize the present moment and appreciate the experience of being aware. The present moment is the moment that a sensory object such as a sound comes into contact with awareness. This brings about the experience of being aware. Without having practiced meditation, awareness is normally overshadowed by the sense of self, memories, thoughts, and feelings. Focusing on the very present moment at the same time with appreciating the experience of being aware may lessen these overshadowing effects. Wholesome awareness will gradually emerge and become more and more prominent in the mind. Cultivating a wholesome awareness is the purpose of the video 1 reminder.
Wholesome awareness is the right mindfulness, the cornerstone of the Noble Eightfold Path. In the process of practicing the Fourfold Establishing Awareness meditation, wholesome awareness recognizes, observes objects coming into contact with it through the six sense organs. With diligent practice, over time, the ultimate reality of nature including the five aggregates that make up a human being: body, feeling, memory, thinking and consciousness will gradually be discovered.
Now bring the attention to the very present moment when the sound comes into contact with awareness. Note the two events: the experience of the present moment and the experience of being aware. The present moment is the moment that the being aware happens.
Present moment and awareness do not come and go; they are always present but become perceivable only upon contact with a sensory object.

In English vocabulary, there are no specific terms to describe the following meanings spoken in Pali language: * Sutta-may-panna= understanding Dharma through reading sutta, books, or listening to dharma talks, videos...* Cinta-maya-panna= understanding dharma through a process of contemplating, thinking, analyzing, comparing facts and information. *Bhavana-maya-panna= a mental cultivation developed in the right concentration after a long period of diligent, enduring meditation practice. The steady establishment of the wholesome awareness in mind is a Bhavana-maya-panna that builds up the primary step for the mind to board the Vipassana meditation path.
